Description
The house has been built in ca 1955 on a 1450sqm / 1/3 acre section in Whenuapai village. It is facing Herald Island, visible across the water. From the garden lawn and the house, you have views of Sky Tower, Greenhithe, Hobsonville, Herald Island and Birkenhead. The main garden area on the waterfront is facing east. There are neighbours on the northern and southern boundaries. The western side of the garden joins Kauri Road.
On the eastern side of the property, there is a small bush with native pohutakawas, pongas, flax and others. That bush is on a strong slope approx. 5 meters above the high tide mark. At the bottom of the bush ("Queen's chain"), there are mangroves. A channel allows the launch of a kayak or dinghy. There is no public walkway or road between the property and the waterfront.
During our 5-year ownership of the house, we have extensively modified the garden to turn it into a low maintenance section, better suited for nowadays city lifestyle. We have also renovated the interior of the house, and meticulously maintained the exterior.
The house is made of timber covered by so-called "castle tiles". This is a permanent material, made of iron and small couloured rock particles. It is very effective and requires minimal maintenance (fresh water spraying once or twice a year). There is no need to repaint it.
The roof is made of steel and is in good shape. No leaks have been experienced. All other equipment (power, plumbing) is in good condition.
The house is entirely wired for fast ADSL internet, with a wired network and outlets in all rooms, including living room. It might be suitable as home office, or for a technically minded family.
